The African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games (formerly known as the Zone VI Games) are scheduled to take place this year in December 2018 and will be organised in Gabarone, Botswana. The Games which were previously staged under the patronage of the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA) are now staged under the patronage of the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5.

Basketball is part of these games along with several other sporting codes and SASCOC on behalf of the Ministry of Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA) is the custodian of Team South Africa’s participation at these games in December. Basketball South Africa is therefore responsible for selection and preparation of a National under 16 Girls and Boys teams for this program and we have scheduled to host a national selection camp from 21 – 23 September 2018.

Given the unfortunate circumstances currently facing Basketball at the national level including lack of resources, our NEC has identified Free State as an ideal province to organise our National Selection Camp. All Provinces are therefore responsible for the funding of all required resources for their teams to attend the trials.

The Free State Basketball Association (FSBA) has been appointed to host it in Bloemfontein. The FSBA Secretary-General is leading the soon to be announced LOC
